Add a Belt as an Inexpensive Styling Accessory

When you are looking to add accessories to an outfit, or to style it for a more professional look one underused accessory piece is a belt. Updating your wardrobe with a belt can make existing clothes in your closet look like whole new outfits!

When you use a belt to accessorize an outfit the first thing to do is select a belt that looks good on your body, and consider the clothing you are looking to style.

For example, you usually won’t want to style a shapeless tunic with a thin belt. You want it to be an eyecatching accessory, and to add some style so you will usually want it to be a bit wider than one you would wear with your jeans.

We love this adorable denim dress with the sexy bell sleeves, but it needed a little something. First of all, everything looks better on a body than on a hanger or form.

We added a Wide Faux Leather Belt to it, and a matching pair of earrings, and a cute ring to make it look styled. Because this dress is a solid, you can use any color a belt. I love red with denim!

You will also note that we placed the belt just under the bust. We did this because our model is petite, and it elongates her body. In this case, if we had placed the belt at her natural waist line, it would have cut her body in half, and not been flattering.

So if you have a tunic, or sheath dress, and it is wide at the bottom, and not flattering consider adding a belt! It will update an existing piece in your closet, and be really flattering.
